Dal Tadka / Dal Fry
The Dal tadka is a regular affair at all our homes and is very easy to prepare. It tastes delicious with rotis and rice. Add a teaspoon of ghee to the dish for a distinct aroma and appetizing flavour. Dal tadka is versatile enough to be served with an array of Indian flat breads like roti, chapati, naan and rice as well.

Ingredients
- 1 cup arhar / tur dal
- 1/4 cup yellow moong dal
- 1 green chilli
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 dry red chillies
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
- 1 sprig Curry leaves
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
Method
Step 1
Wash arhar dal and moong dal and let them soak for at least 15 min
Step 2
Drain and boil the dal in a pressure cooker along with the split green chilli, turmeric powder, salt and about 2 cups of water.
Step 3
Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
Step 4
Mash the ingredients while hot.
Step 5
Temper mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and broken red chillies in about 2 tbsp oil.
Step 6
Add onion to this and fry till the onions turn golden brown. Add the chopped tomatoes and saute for a few minutes.
Step 7
Add the dals to this and bring to boil.
Step 8
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
