Aloo Posto

Aloo posto is a typical dish of the Bengali cuisine. In this, the potatoes are stir fried in poppy seeds paste, and has the heart melting fragrance of kalonji seeds that gives it that authentic taste. Serve it with hot steamed rice or roti and you’ll have your kids coming back for seconds.

Ingredients
- 6 potatoes
- 4 tbsp poppy seeds (soaked)
- 2 tsp mustard oil
- 1/2 tsp kalonji seeds
- 2 green chilli
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp ghee
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Cut the potatoes into cubes.
Step 2
Drain the soaked poppy seeds and grind them to fine paste.
Step 3
Heat mustard oil in a non stick pan and add kalonji seeds. Keep sauteing until you get the aroma.
Step 4
Add potato cubes saute for a minute. Cover with a lid and cook for 5 min.
Step 5
Next, add poppy paste and saute well. Cover again with a lid and cook until the potatoes are done.
Step 6
Add green chilli, salt and sugar. Add half a cup of water and cook for another 2 minutes and switch off the flame.
Step 7
Serve hot with roti or rice.
