Morning
1. Start Your Day With This Detox Water
Bhumi starts her mornings with a glass of warm water or any detox water of her choice. This cleanses and detoxifies the body right in the morning. Take a look at Bhumi’s Detox Water recipe below – it is infused with lemon that not only cleanses your body but also makes it alkaline, which boosts your immunity. The mint aids digestion, while the cucumber contains anti-inflammatory properties. She says, “Just remove it from the fridge in a couple of hours, strain the liquid, pop it your sipper and keep sipping on it. This was one of the things I tried.”
2. Eat This King-Size Breakfast
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This is one rule you must remember when trying to lose weight! Bhumi eats a hearty breakfast every morning to make sure she gets ample energy to get through the day, and also stay away from harmful cravings in the middle of the morning.
Thirty minutes after drinking the detox water, she has some muesli with skimmed milk and flax/sunflower seeds. She then sets herself a king-size breakfast of whole wheat bread, 2 egg-white omelettes and a fruit (usually papaya or apple). Take a look at her breakfast menu here:
3. Do Some Basic Workout
Bhumi then does some morning exercise in the gym. She alternates between cardio and weights. However, if you cannot make it to a gym, there is no reason for concern. Just try and squeeze in some physical activity during the day, like a brisk walk, squats, situps, or yoga.
4. Consume Protein After Exercise
After her workout, Bhumi loads up on five boiled egg whites! She believes that “there is nothing healthier than kick-starting your day with a breakfast like this”! Protein also makes sure your muscle mass is built, and you feel leaner and fitter with time.
Afternoon
1. Add Some Punch To Lunch
Bhumi’s lunch consists of a simple home-cooked meal including roti, sabzi and daal. She eats everything but tries to make it healthier. For e.g. she swaps wheat rotis with rotis made from bajra, jowar, nachni, soya, chana or rajgira topped with some white butter. All of the above grains can be mixed in together to make a wholesome multi grain roti or can be used individually too! The best part is, Bhumi’s diet does not cut out the tasty things in life. The dal she eats has tadka and the sabzi is made with olive oil in moderation.
She washes down her lunch with either a glass of buttermilk with salt and jeera, or a bowl of homemade dahi.
But we all know that the same style of food every day can get boring. For that, Bhumi has some healthy alternatives like:
- Grilled chicken with brown bread and veggies
- Grilled chicken sandwiches with hummus, honey mustard, green chutney or any other trans-fat spread
- Hummus with cucumber and carrots
- Soya nuggets
- Homemade chicken curry and brown rice

2. Mid Afternoon Snack
Afternoons can be long, and you don’t want building hunger to tempt you into unhealthy snacking! To combat this problem, at around 4:30 p.m., Bhumi eats half a papaya or an apple/pear or guava. Fruits are packed with essential vitamins and minerals and should be a key part of your daily diet. After an hour, Bhumi sips some green tea, accompanied with almonds or walnuts. This keeps her feeling satisfied till her next meal.
3. Evening Snack
At around 7:00 p.m., Bhumi has a big bowl of salad with all the greens she can gather. She also adds some fruit and some dried berries or walnuts on occasion. The salads are dressed with olive oil or balsamic vinegar, or some olive chilli oil with garlic and mustard. Sometimes, she even uses apple cider vinegar as a dressing, or throws in some chicken chunks or feta cheese to her salad. This mixes it up a little and also makes it tastier. Night
1. Eat This Low-Carb Dinner
Bhumi usually has dinner at 8:30 p.m. When she eats a non-vegetarian meal, she prefers grilled fish or chicken. When she feels like a vegetarian meal, it is usually fresh, grilled or lightly pan-fried paneer/tofu, stir-fried veggies or steamed vegetables with different seasoning and a small cup of brown rice. Sometimes, she even includes a small multi-grain roti.
Her key rule is: She avoids carbs as much as possible at night. Digestion slows down at night, and a heavy, carb-rich meal for dinner will make all your efforts during the day less effective.
2. Healthy Options For Cravings
Now, no one is spared from cravings, especially at odd hours like midnight! But cravings don’t have to be fattening. Bhumi suggests some snack options that help her on days where she is craving something salty, crunchy, crispy or sweet! She opts for a simple berry smoothie.
Recipe: Pour a glass of water into the mixer and add 2 tablespoons of yoghurt. Add one teaspoon of honey and fresh berries of all kinds into it. Blend them together and enjoy! She suggests that you can also pour this smoothie into an ice tray to make yummy yoghurt cubes!

3. Stay Away From Refined Sugar
One important tip to boost your weight loss, as well as overall health, is to stay away from refined sugar. Bhumi says, “Quitting or rather reducing the intake of refined sugar was one the best decisions of my life. Refined sugar – brown or white – is nothing but the taste and empty calories. In fact, in the process to digest it, it empties your body of a lot of vitamins and minerals.
For someone like me who has a sweet tooth, staying away from meetha was tough. So I thought, why crave and deprive yourself, when you have healthier options available today?”
Tip: Use These in Place of Sugar
- Raw Honey – It is good for digestion and is packed with zinc, potassium, calcium and vitamin B6. Remember to not cook it at high temperatures, as it will lose its taste and nutrients
- Stevia – It is extracted from a plant and tastes very close to sugar. It has no calories or carbs. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and controls high blood pressure too!
- Date Syrup – It is a great alternative to sugar and gives you energy and iron. Bhumi says, “You can add it to your mithai or pastries too!”
- Jaggery – It cleanses your respiratory tract, stomach, food pipe, lungs and also aids in digestion
- Others – maple syrup, coconut sugar
