1. Egg Carton Turtle Craft
The egg carton craft is one of the easiest and the cheapest crafts that kids can make! All you have to do is save a few egg cartons, and they can be used to make so many recycled adorable crafts. This is an easy turtle craft for toddlers, but if you feel like your child is too small to draw or cut paper, then you could always download a template.
Supplies Required
- Egg carton cup (1)
- Green construction paper
- Small googly craft eyes (2, optional)
- Glue
- Scissors
- Paints or crayons
- Palette
How to Make
- First, take an egg carton, and cut out one cup or holder from it. Trim the edges using normal or craft scissors, and make the edges smooth, since this is going to be the shell of the turtle.
- Next, you have to paint the turtle’s shell. Take a palette, and mix little amounts of yellow and blue paint with green paint, (since the yellow and blue mixed with green will give it an aquatic touch). Your child can do this using a paintbrush.
- In order to avoid messes while painting, lay down old paper or cloth for your little one.
- After the paint has dried, place the cup on green construction paper, and draw the outline of a turtle (the head, the tail, 2 front legs, and 2 hind legs) around the cup. If your kid is not old enough to draw, then you can use a template and cut it out.
- After drawing the outline, cut the outline out using scissors, and paste the two googly eyes on the head. You could also draw the eyes and mouth using a black marker.
- On the shell, paint some yellow spots using a paintbrush, and glue the shell onto the outline of the body!
2. Paper Weaved Sea Turtle
The paper weaved sea turtle craft may sound a bit complicated, but it is another fun and easy turtle craft your kids would enjoy! You would not need many accessories to make the craft, and with the help of a few household items and common craft supplies, you and your little one can make an adorable turtle!
Supplies Required
- Paintbrush
- Blue paint
- Bubble wrap
- Scissors
- Paper cutter
- Green and white construction paper
- Paper strips (any of your favorite colors)
- Glue stick
How to Make
- First, take green construction paper, and draw the outline of a turtle. If the outline seems a bit hard to draw, you could use a turtle stencil. Cut the outline out.
- Fold the outline in half, such that the left side of the body is touching the right side.
- Place the halved outline in front of you such that the head of the turtle is to your left and the tail is to your right. Cut slits on the abdomen area of the turtle. For precision, you can help your child use a ruler to draw vertical lines. Leave about half an inch around the edges so that the paper does not tear while you weave.
- After that, open the turtle, which will now have horizontal lines on the shell area.
- Now, take the paper strip, and start weaving! The first strip will go over the top first, and then underneath. Follow these steps till you finish. For the next strip, follow the opposite pattern – underneath first, and then over the top. This way, the shell will look like a checkerboard.
- Finally, paste the tips of the strips on the construction paper. You can trim the extra length.
- For the background, take the bubble wrap, and paint the bubbles using light blue paint. Place this bubble wrap over the white construction paper, press it firmly, and pull it back. Allow the paint to dry.
- Finally, draw a little face on the head, glue him onto the blue background, and you will have a happy little turtle!

Supplies Required
- Mini popsicle sticks (3 per turtle)
- Paint
- Markers
- Glue
- Colorful yarns
How to Make
- Take 3 mini popsicle sticks and glue them together while placed one on top of the other, like a star.
- Color the popsicle sticks green with paint or markers. Let dry, if you have used paint. The sticks are going to be the legs, head, and tail of the turtle.
- Now that the body is ready, the next step is to make the shell using yarn! You could use yarn of different colors to make the shell more colorful. If you do not have yarn, then you could use strips of old apparel or even plastic bags.
- Take the yarn from the edge to the center of the turtle (the place where the sticks intersect). Then, wrap the yarn around the turtle across the center, and make a God’s eye pattern. Place the yarn over the stick and wrap it around, then place it over the next stick, and wrap it around, and keep repeating the action.
- When you are at the end of your yarn, you can attach the next color by just tying it to the end.
- When you are almost at the end of the popsicle stick, you can tie the end of the yarn to the string you just wrapped around. You could cut the extra string off to make the turtle look neat.
- You could then take a black marker and draw the eyes and the mouth, and you have an adorable, colorful turtle!
