Q.

My daughter who is 9 months old has got affected with Urinary Tract Infection, we were advised to do urine test as she was often getting fever which would last 1 day and go away with fever drops prescribed by the doctor but this time that wasn't the case and hence doctor felt why the baby is getting fever often and advised to do a urine test. urine test results showed UTI positive and hence the doctor prescribed antibiotics and also advised to do a urine culture test. While we are still waiting for the urine culture test report, we have started with the antibiotics as per doctor advice. But she's been vomiting the antibiotics and being 9 months old she's not that cooperative to consume the antibiotics. Anything that we can do to avoid such infection in future, though we are monitoring and changing Pampers, sponge water bath, water bath and regular bathing as well.

A. you have to always complete the course of medicine given by your doctor. many medicines can be mixed with water food juice and milk and given to the child so please confirm with your doctor which medicine can be mixed with food and given to the child. also you can keep some taste changing food in your hand and give that taste enhancer immediately after giving the medicine which might decrease the chances of vomiting post giving medicine. many times a divergence technique also helps in small children that is you give the medicine and immediately divert the child with some music or sound or playful activity. you may give the medicine with the help of a dropper or a syringe (without needle) from the corner of the mouth urinary infection is very common. this can be prevented mainly by taking plenty of fluids which will help in decreasing the chances of concentrated urine as well as infection. at the same time the urinary area should be cleaned with only water and try to avoid any type of soap and cleaning agents. at the same time after passing stool the perianal area should be cleaned from front to back. if the cleaning area is cleaned fromd back to front the stool can stick to the urinary area causing urinary tract infection. recurrent urinary tract infections s to be investigated radiologically
