Q.

my baby gets red blotches on her face. sometimes pimples. her neck also is quite red in the folds. how to treat these? I am afraid these might be causing her uneasiness. I apply baby oil in the folds as precautions but it doesn't seem to have good affect. I am applying himalaya baby cream on her face. due to cold, i am giving her sponge baths without use of any soap.

A. In babies rashes in the neck area especially around the neck folds are the most common. The reasons for infant neck rash range from prickly heat to skin infections like those caused by fungus. Commonly neck rash may disappear on its own. -Dress up your baby cotton loosly fitted top. -You can also try using cold compress on the affected region to soothe the skin inflammation. -Maintain Good Skin Hygiene. -You can also try massaging your baby with coconut oil twice a day. -Consult pediatrician if it is accompanied by fever.

A. thank you for the responses. since it's cold here in delhi, I am not able to dress her in loose cotton clothes. she is in 3 layers of clothing. I try to clean her neck and apply lotion or oil so that it doesn't dry up. Face redness keeps on coming and going. her cheeks are getting so rough due to all this.

A. Hi, Sponge bath is good dear. I would suggest to apply your breastmilk and coconut oil on those res areas only. Most skin related issues in babies below 1 year go on own by doing the same. Use natural products only as coconut oil or olive oil for massage. Use Himalaya baby cream everytime before using the diaper.
