you can use any oil which is preferable for you. it should be free of additives and should be pure.
massage mainly increases bonding between you and baby.
gives comfort to baby. soothing, relaxing for both of you.
helps in digestion, induces good sleep.
calcium strengthens bones, not massage.
so its really upto you , your time, baby's enjoyment, weather etc. no rules as such.
oil quantity needed is not much. itshould just get absorbed in skin. do not use excess oil. people put loads of oil on head to make skull stronger. its a myth.
time varies, depends on how long baby likes it.
Arti DubeyMom of a 4 yr 7 m old girl4 years agoA. Some babies don't like to get massaged on some specific areas. So if the baby gets uncomfortable don't massage on that area.
Also we should not put pressure on tummy area, just apply little bit oil, and with light hands massage in circular motion and leave it if the baby starts crying.
do this for some time then the baby will start to like it eventually.
