A. You will have to control the screen time. No other option to protect the eyes. Be stern and stubborn and don't give up seeing the melt downs. This is the right time u control screen time. If u r not handling it now then it will be very difficult later. Hug him, cuddle him and tell him why he can't watch rhymes all the time. Try to deviate his attention to some other toys or books. Get him more and more books like two books per week and try to gain his interest in books. You can read a story along with him and try to enact it like a role play to make story reading interesting. Come out with a plan and set screen times. Tell him that everyday eleven am he can watch songs for half an hour. At Evening five he can again watch some rhymes for half an hour. Get the phone or tablet back after the time ends(best to use DVD player instead of phone or cd or cartoon channels) and don't give him the phone or let him watch TV at all other times. You can handle this well if u r strict on the timings. You have to be stubborn for his well being. It's true that kids learn many things and improve their vocabulary by watching rhymes or stories. So you need not avoid it altogether. A restricted screen time will be a better option. Encourage him by rewarding him with stickers if he obey and follow the screen times aptly. Ask him to paste it himself on his cupboard or door. Tell him that after he collects like ten stickers he can get a small surprise gift which will really make him happy
