#AskTheExpert My son keeps getting cold and cough. The moment medicines stop it reoccurs in 3 - 4 days

Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy2 years agoA. it is in diagnosis of allergic cough cold .
here the child will have regular cough and cold which is usually not associated with fever .
it increases and decreases but does not get cured completely.
dr will give anti allergic medicine usually motelukast / levocetirizine. if its still not improving the next line of treatment will be inhaler therapy with mdi / nebulizer.
allergy can be environmental (temperature variation -hot to cold weather/ cold water intake / dust / smoke / pollens) , food d, chocolate / packet preservatives food and sweet food also.
body cannot sustain such allergic changes leading to cough cold usually at evening /night and morning.

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children2 years agoA. Cough along with Cold and fever most of the time is a viral illness or allergic and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration needs to be maintained. you can give steam inhalation which may be useful .
cough needs to be treated with medicine like anti allergic expectorant bronchodilators antitussives or cough suppresents medicine which should be given only after a proper evaluation by the doctor according to the type of cough and need.
In severe cough nebulisation can be given where medicine directly gets dilivered in the respiratory tract.
Also if fever is there parakpcetamol can be given to reduce the fever and the dose is 15 mg/ kg body weight and can be repeated after 6 hours again if required .
Home remedies like Tulsi & ginger mix in honey can be tried for soothing.
