#AskTheExpert Hi Doctor, my baby is 10days old and her grandmother is asking to put a soap bath and mustard oil over the body. how safe is that and what other precautions we need to take from old myths or tradition.

A. hi, you may use mustard oil to massage her before bath n give bath with mild baby soap. Massaging the baby with oil is a very healthy practice, followed by bathing with luke warm water.

A. Using soaps and shampoos Only use plain water for newborn babies. You can start using unperfumed baby bath from about 4 to 6 weeks, but be careful to only use a little so you don't damage your baby's skin. Babies with longer hair may need a drop of mild shampoo on wet hair, lathered and rinsed off.
