Basmati rice 1 cup
Masoor dal ½ cup
Water 2 cups
Oil 2 tbsp
Carrots (chopped) ½ cup
Green beans (chopped) ½ cup
Onions (chopped) 1
Ginger and garlic paste ½ tsp
Black cardamom powder ½ tsp
Cloves 3
Cinnamon 1-inch
Chopped coriander leaves 2 tbsp
Coconut yoghurt 3 tbsp
Salt as per taste According to taste
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp


Follow the step-by-step instructions to make vegetable masoor pulav in no time.

  1. First, soak the masoor dal for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Wash and soak the basmati rice for around 30 minutes.
  3. Heat some oil in a pressure cooker then add in the chopped onions.
  4. Once the onions turn translucent, add in the cardamom powder, cinnamon, ginger-garlic paste, and mix well.
  5. Add in the vegetables and mix well. You can also add other vegetables of your choice, such as potatoes, cauliflowers or broccoli.
  6. Add in the turmeric powder and mix well, and let the vegetables cook for about 2 minutes. You can also add red chilli powder, but make sure it doesn’t get too spicy for your baby.
  7. Wash the masoor dal, and after draining the water, add the dal to the vegetable mix and stir it all together. Let it cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Add the coconut yoghurt or normal yoghurt and mix everything well.
  9. Drain the water from the rice and add it in the cooker.
  10. Add salt according to your taste and 2 cups of water. Mix well.
  11. Pressure cook for three whistles.
  12. Once cooked, turn off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  13. Add more after if you want to make it soft and mushy.
