Sprouted moong chaat

This healthy sprouted moong chaat has loads of nutrients like proteins, iron, fibre, and vitamins A and C. The best part is, this tasty snack can be tossed up in a jiffy and is the perfect answer to sudden hunger pangs, of course if you keep some sprouted moong always ready in your fridge. Interestingly, the sprouted moong mixture is a nice and crunchy snack to have just as it is, even without the toppings! You can cook it up and then add the veggies to make it an easy to chew, easy to digest option for younger or older members of the family.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sprouted moong(whole green gram)
  • 1 tsp(teaspoon) oil
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds( rai/sarson)
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds(jeera)
  • a few curry leaves(kadi patta)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic(adrak-lehsun) paste
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • a pinch of turmeric powder(haldi)
  • 1/2 tsp coriander-cumin seeds(dhania-jeera) powder
  • 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
  • salt to taste

For Serving

  • 2 tbsp finely chopped onions
  • 2 tbsp chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander(dhania)
  • 2 pinches chili powder
  • salt to taste
  • a pinch of chaat masala

Method

Step 1

Heat the oil in a broad non-stick pan.

Add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds.

Step 3

When the seeds crackle, add the curry leaves and onions.

Sauté on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.

Add the ginger-garlic paste, chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander-cumin seeds powder, tomatoes, sprouted moong, ¼ cup of water and salt.

Mix well and cook on a medium flame for 4 to 5 minutes or till the moong is partially cooked with occasional stirring.

Remove from the flame and allow it to cool slightly.

Take half the mixture in a bowl, sprinkle a little salt or chaat masala, 1 tbsp(tablespoon) of onions, 1 tbsp of tomatoes, 1 tbsp of coriander and a pinch of chili powder over it.

Repeat the procedure for the next serving.

Step 10

Serve immediately.
