Little Millet Pulao With Chicken- a Healthy Replacement of Rice


Millets are a good source of nutrients and the perfect replacement for rice. Here I am sharing an easy millet- chicken pulao recipe. 

1. Little millet 2 cups
2. Chicken 300g
3. 1 medium size onion
4. 1 medium size tomato
5. 2 tablespoons ginger garlic and chilly paste
6. 1 bay leaf
7. 3/4 black pepper seed
8. 2 pieces of Clove 
9. 1 teaspoon cumin seed
10. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
11. Curd 3 tablespoon
12. Coriander leaves 
13. Oil 4 tablespoon
14. Ghee 1 spoon
15. Salt per taste.


  • Soak the millet in water for 6 hours after carefully washing it. Do not throw away the soaking water for millet; it contains nutrients that are used in the dish.
  • Remove the onion and tomato from the pan and set them aside.
  • Rinse the chicken and marinate it for 30 minutes in curd, salt, and turmeric powder.
  • It can be prepared in a pressure cooker or a handi. After heating the handi, drizzle it with oil.
  • Add the garam masala and chopped onion once it’s heated. Fry until golden, then stir in the tomato and ginger garlic paste. When the tomato has softened, add the chicken and cook for 2-3 minutes. Cover the chicken with a lid when it appears to be white.
  • Add the millet after five minutes and stir for one minute. Cook for another 2-3 minutes after thoroughly mixing the chicken and millet. Now pour in the water that the millet was soaked in. Then, if necessary, season with salt and cover with the lid.
  • Keep the flame on a medium to low setting. You can add water if the water runs out.
  • Remove the chicken and millet from the heat and stir in the ghee and chopped coriander leaves. You can also add fried onions to it.

Do give it a try. You can replace chicken with veggies like carrot, beetroot, potato, green peas, cauliflower,  beans, and soybean if you are a vegetarian.
