Hospital Bag Checklist: 20 Things I Had Included in My Hospital Bag
Everyone might have gotten this advice from their elders that they shouldn’t buy anything for the baby before delivery. I also got the same advice, but I could convince them about the relevance of buying a few things before the baby arrives. Ideally, you should keep your hospital bag ready after 32 weeks itself with all the necessary things, except the ones which we use daily. By doing so, we can avoid any last-minute rush. Below are a few things which I had included in my hospital bag.
1. Hospital File, ID Card and Insurance Papers
These are the most important things in the hospital bag. This file consists of all the reports from day one of pregnancy. Even if the doctor whom you’re consulting is not available at the time of admission, the doctor on duty can proceed with the further actions required by checking your medical records. Also, keep your ID card and insurance-related papers ready as you can submit those at the time of admission itself.
2. Maternity Wear
You should take 4 to 5 pairs of maternity wear so that it will be helpful to feed your baby after delivery.
3. Bedsheets and Blankets
Even though the hospital will provide bed sheets, it’s always better to take some bedsheets and blankets for the mom and baby, that are washed and dried perfectly at home.
4. Medicines
If you are taking any medicines as prescribed by your consulting doctor, never forget to add that in your hospital bag. The hospital pharmacy may have those medicines but what if the same combination, which you have been taking from a long time is not available in that particular store? It’s always better to keep these medicines with you.
5. Baby Dress
You must keep at least 10 pairs of baby dresses which are neatly washed and dried at home. Always remember to wash baby dress before using, as the baby’s skin is very sensitive.
6. Wet Wipes for the Baby and Mother
7. Mobile and Charger
8. Sweater, Socks and Shoes
It’s better to keep a pair of socks, shoe and a sweater for both mom and kid, irrespective of the climate.
9. Mosquito Net for the Baby
10. Debit Card / Credit Card / Cash
11. Slippers
You can keep a pair of slippers with you for using it while going to the washroom.
12. Water Bottle or Flask
Even though food will be available in the hospital canteen, you must keep a flask with you. You will need to feed the baby every two hours during the initial days and while waking up in between, you might feel hungry. So it’s always better to keep a flask with you and fill it with a drink of your choice before going to bed.
13. Books
You can also keep your favourite books in your hospital bag as it will help you to reduce stress and anxiety.
14. Maternity Pads for the Mother
15. Diapers for the Baby
You can discuss with your friends and reach a conclusion about which diaper you should use for your baby. Also, be careful about rashes and always keep a rash cream with you.
16. Going Home Outfit for Mom and Baby
17. Soap, Shampoo and Toothbrush
18. Romper for the Baby
19. Car Seat for Baby
20. Sanitiser and Mask
Hope I have included everything which I took in my hospital bag. Happy parenthood!
