A. Teething can be a challenging time for both babies and parents. For an 8-month-old baby, here’s what you can expect regarding teeth eruption: Teething Timeline First Teeth: Most babies begin to cut their first teeth between 4 to 7 months, but it can vary. By 8 months, some babies may have one or more teeth, while others may not have any yet. Common Sequence: The first teeth to usually appear are the lower central incisors (the two bottom front teeth), followed by the upper central incisors (the two top front teeth). Signs of Teething If your baby is showing signs of irritation, it may be due to teething. Common symptoms include: Increased drooling Swollen or tender gums Chewing on objects Irritability or fussiness Sleep disturbances Comforting Your Baby Here are some ways to help soothe your baby during teething: 1. Teething Rings: Offer a chilled (not frozen) teething ring to chew on. The cold can numb the gums and relieve discomfort. 2. Cold Washcloth: A clean, damp washcloth that has been chilled in the refrigerator can also provide relief. 3. Massage: Gently massage your baby’s gums with a clean finger to ease discomfort. 4. Pain Relief: If your baby seems very uncomfortable, consult your pediatrician about safe over-the-counter pain relief options like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. 5. Distraction: Engage your baby with toys or activities to divert their attention from the discomfort. When to Consult a Pediatrician If your baby is excessively irritable, has a high fever, or if you have concerns about teething or other symptoms, it’s best to consult your pediatrician. They can provide guidance and check if there are any other underlying issues.
