A. If your 6-year-old daughter is getting tanned easily despite using sunscreen, here are some tips to help reduce tanning on her face and hands: 1. Reapply Sunscreen: Ensure that you are reapplying sunscreen every 2 hours, especially if she is playing outdoors or sweating. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 or higher, and choose a water-resistant formula. 2. Choose Physical Sunscreen: Look for sunscreens that contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, as these physical blockers are often more effective for sensitive skin and provide immediate protection. 3. Cover Up: Dress her in lightweight, long-sleeved clothing and use wide-brimmed hats to shield her from direct sunlight. Light-colored fabrics can also help reflect sunlight. 4. Limit Sun Exposure: Try to keep her indoors during peak sun hours, typically from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If she needs to be outside, ensure she is well-protected. 5. Use Natural Remedies: For gentle de-tanning, consider natural remedies that are safe for children: Yogurt and Turmeric: Mix yogurt with a pinch of turmeric and apply it to her skin. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes before rinsing. Aloe Vera: Apply fresh aloe vera gel to her tanned areas before bedtime. It helps soothe the skin and may lighten tans. Cucumber Juice: Apply cucumber juice to the face and hands for a cooling effect and to help reduce tan. 6. Stay Hydrated: Ensure she drinks plenty of water to keep her skin hydrated and healthy. 7. Consult a Dermatologist: If tanning is a persistent issue or if you are concerned about her skin, consider consulting a dermatologist for personalized advice and suitable products. Remember to be cautious with any topical treatments and opt for gentle, child-friendly products to avoid irritation.
