For a one-month-old baby suffering from a cold, it is essential to be cautious with medications and focus on natural remedies and comfort measures. Newborns have delicate immune systems, so most mild colds resolve on their own. Keep the baby hydrated with frequent breastfeeding or formula feeding, as this helps in clearing congestion. Use a saline nasal spray and a bulb syringe to gently clear nasal mucus if the baby has trouble breathing. Running a cool-mist humidifier in the room can help keep the air moist and ease congestion. Keep the baby’s head slightly elevated while sleeping to promote better breathing. Avoid exposure to cold air, smoke, and strong fragrances.
Over-the-counter medicines are not recommended for a one-month-old baby without a doctor’s consultation. If your baby has a high fever (above 100.4°F or 38°C), difficulty breathing, reduced feeding, or excessive irritability, consult a pediatrician immediately. Always seek medical advice before giving any medication to such a young baby.
