A. Regarding Speech Baby usually start mono syllable by 6 to 7 months of age then by syllable words come by 9 to 10 months of age
then by 12 to 14 months of age baby say two to three words followed by jargon speech at 15-16 months .
child can start saying simple sentences by two years of age .
just make the child comfortable and do more interaction with the child so that he can learn to speak sentences properly.
if the speech does not comes even by threels years of age you need to consult your doctor for a proper assessment of the child .

A. At the said age, they should be speaking 2 to 5 word sentences. These words can be in their own language too, but meaningful words.
If there is screentime.. please reduce it. As screen time can lead to speech delay.
By 18 months they should have 15 to 20 meaningful words
http://www.hanen.org/Helpful-Info/When-You-Are-Concerned/Warning-Signs.aspxJust narrate your day and everything you do, and read read read.
Remember that kids can hear you and are listening even if they're not sitting still or making eye contact with you.
Lots and lots of reading, get some posters with shapes or colours to look at and point out what they are. After a while you can ask “what’s this shape?” Same with toy animals in the bath or just playing in general. With everything they do, you can tell them why it is, what they are doing, eating etc, and ask them to repeat it back to you..
Yes, there are late talkers, but there are also language impaired as well, and it’s hard to tell the difference until that gap is big. It never hurts to get a speech therapy evaluation to see if services would benefit your child. And there’s nothing wrong with a delay!
Narrate everything you’re doing and your child is doing. Sing songs, read books. Talk about pictures. Give your child wait time. Talk about what your child was trying to communicate. “I see you’re pointing at the milk. Do you want the milk? Yes, you want the milk. I want milk!”
Listening to songs are great and singing. Maybe he's going to get his voice through music. Vocabulary comes through stories, reading, songs, pictures. Use something he likes and tell him ALL about it. You don't have to feel behind. Every child is different and develop at their own pace.
Some toddlers do take time to say some words.. do make sure that you use the words mum and dad (on your language) in day to day conversation. Address yourself as mum..and your husband as dad. So shall mumma give you water..mumma water; what is papa doing.. papa is reading..papa reading..
As he points to things..ask questions..answer them, prompt the words for him, encourage him name them.
Play peek a boo, make sounds of cars, animals.
Rhymes and story books..try pausing for the last word in the sentence..let him complete it. Toddlers sometimes can choose to not respond if they are engrossed in their activities.
Its good to reduce screen time if at all to a minimum. Keep meal time as family/circle time and talk about your day.
Start adding an additional word for every one word he says.. Amma bye/eye/bike/hat/horse/come/go/sleepy/tired/hungry/book/food and so on.
Introduce concepts like colors, shapes, textures, numbers.. no 'Teaching'..like say red red.. say red NO. But u will use the word 'Red' in 100 different sentences for him to say it once.. like red car, red apple, red flowers, look red square.. and so on. By 2 years he should be speaking in 2 word sentences. You must use clear words..no baby talk.
All babies need lot of interest and interactive play from you. Talk a lot to baby and use animated voices. Even reading news or narrating your daily tasks helps. Read board books together, do finger painting, touch and feel and flip books, stacking and sorting toys, simple wooden puzzles, write letters or shapes in sand and play, blocks, musical instruments like drums, tricycle, pull along toy. Even give him some utensils and spoons to make noise. Make sure your home is baby proof and bathroom door is closed at all times and let child explore.
