Hi, my baby boy has a viral fever for the 5th day. How many days it will last and what are the precautions to be taken in the near future...

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children3 years agoA. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed . Lukewarm sponge bavuth can be given as home remedy to decrease fever. Adequate fluid intake is also bheneficial. Urine output monitoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .

See the viral fever is going to subside within 5 to 7 days you should do dietary precautions also and IT alterations also right now so give more of juice is coconut water bottle milk which is going to help in maintaining strength and energy to the body also consult a nutritionist regarding thisWrite Your Answer Here
