Q.

#asktheexpert my son is 9 day old. Preterm baby His total bilirubin is 14 and direct bilirubin is 1.7 Why is direct bilirubin high ?? Is it danger ?? How can i reduce il??

A. this is neonatal jaundice and if it goes beyond certain level it needs phototherapy in this case it is better to consult your doctor for that you can examine the child properly

A. Ma’am There is no danger the doctor is going to keep the child in phototherapy if it is required every child has jaundice at this age so it’s normal the normal range is about 5.5 if it is below that then there is nothing you need to worry about if it is Above that then phototherapy required
