#AskTheExpert ,my child is 5 years , 18.5 kg , often gets cold.

A. Cold most of the time is a viral illness where there could be running nose sneezing along with cough and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration . steam inhalation will also be useful in this . cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be used once a proper evaluation by the doctor is done and according to the type of cough its prescribed. if any fever is there paracetamol can be given to reduce the tegfmperathure and the dose can be repeated again after 6 hours if required .

A. good morning I would recommend you to try to get the flu vaccination done for your child it helps to protect against the common cold and it will avoid the child from getting recurrent fever also
