A. A baby putting non-food items like paper and plastic in their mouth is normal at this stage as they explore the world through their senses. However, to prevent this, always supervise your baby during playtime and ensure their environment is baby-proofed by removing small or hazardous objects. Offer age-appropriate teething toys or safe items to chew on, which can redirect their curiosity. Establish a habit of saying “no” firmly but gently when they attempt to eat non-food items, and immediately replace it with a safe alternative. Engage your baby in activities that involve their hands, like stacking blocks or sensory play, to keep them occupied and reduce the habit. If this behavior persists excessively, consult a pediatrician to rule out nutritional deficiencies like pica.
