After a baby is born, we give attention to every little detail; starting from the kind of clothes to the quality of diapers. And, the biggest struggle we face is choosing the right baby food. We are always looking for foods that are best during the baby’s growth years, starting from 6 months of age.
For babies from 0 to 6 months, all they need is breast milk. After 6 months we need to start introducing them to solid foods. Then comes the question about what diet we should follow for the baby. Now, there are two options, you can either buy ready to use baby food available in the market, or you can make homemade baby food from scratch. The first option sounds very convenient because all you need to do is buy it from a supermarket or just order online. But, to make homemade baby food, you need to spend time and put in a little effort. Everyone knows these facts. But which option is good for your baby?
As a mother, the one thing that bothers me the most is what to feed my kids and which is the best diet I can provide them. When my kids reached the 6-month mark, I had so many questions in my mind regarding what to feed them. I spoke to our paediatrician and researched a lot about what foods to choose for my kids.
From my experience, I prefer homemade baby food because-
1. They have No Preservatives or Additives
Homemade baby food does not need any preservatives or additives.
2. I Choose What to Feed
I get to choose every meal my little one eats. I can keep changing his meal plan so that he doesn’t get bored.
3. It Is Economical
Preparing baby food at home is definitely budget-friendly. No packaging charges, transport charges or taxes.
4. Always Fresh
Homemade baby food has to be prepared fresh every time. So, I can feed fresh food for every meal.
5. The Food Is Nutritious
Packaged foods need to undergo sterilisation which involves exposing the food to high temperatures to kill germs. Because of this, the nutrients also get depleted. Homemade food, on the other hand, does not require sterilisation and is, therefore, nutritious.
6. The Food Is Tastier
Fresh food always tastes better than stored food.
Babies eating homemade food can easily transit from baby food to table food.
So, try to feed your little ones homemade baby food instead of packaged food. I don’t mean to say that feeding your little one packaged food is wrong. At times, especially when you are travelling, are busy or sick, these store-bought baby foods are a saviour. If you are feeding your little one store-bought baby food, read the labels carefully to rule out the presence of harmful preservatives or additives.
Try to minimise the usage of packaged baby food as much as possible and choose the healthier option of homemade baby food.
