A. You can start introducing water and solid foods to your baby around 6 months of age, as this is the time when most babies are ready for these changes. Here’s a guide on how to do it: Introducing Water: At 6 months, you can start giving your baby small sips of water in addition to breast milk or formula. Offer water in a sippy cup or a small open cup to help them learn how to drink from it. Don't replace milk with water; milk will still be the primary source of nutrition. At this stage, babies don’t need a lot of water, so just a few sips throughout the day are enough. Introducing Solid Foods: Start with simple, single-ingredient foods like pureed fruits (apple, pear, banana), vegetables (carrot, sweet potato, peas), and iron-fortified baby cereals mixed with breast milk or formula. Gradually increase the texture as your baby gets used to eating solids. You can move from purees to mashed foods and then small pieces of soft foods around 8-9 months. Continue breastfeeding or formula feeding, as breast milk or formula remains the most important source of nutrition during the first year. Signs Your Baby is Ready for Solids: Can hold their head up and sit with support. Shows interest in food and watches you eat. Can move food to the back of their mouth and swallow. Remember to introduce one new food at a time and watch for any allergic reactions. Consult your pediatrician before introducing solids to make sure it's the right time for your baby.
