You can give porridge, salmon, boiled eggs, beans, soups with legumes, steamed and boiled vegetables, vegetable stock, chicken, all seasonal fruits, yoghurt, whole milk and whole grains should be included in the diet of a 16 months old. Let the child feed himself or herself. Give him or her a bowl and a spoon. Let the child make a mess. This is how he or she will learn to touch and then taste the food. Offer only small portions of the food. Offer his or her favourite foods along with new foods that you want to introduce in his or her diet. Let family meal be a joyous event so that your child watches and learns eating from you. Let him or her participate in meal preparations like setting the table or choosing the ingredients for meal.
