A. A child between 3-4 years old should speak between 250-500 words. She should be able to answer simple questions. She should be able to speak in sentences of 5-6 words and speak in complete sentences by age 4. A 3 year old who can comprehend and non verbally communicate but cannot say many words may have a speech delay. One who can say a few words but cannot put them into understandable phrases may have a language delay. Please consult with your doctor or a speech therapist for further diagnosis.
