A. It is common for toddlers to have phases where they refuse food or become picky eaters. Since your son is active, this indicates he is getting some nutrition, but encouraging better eating habits is essential. Start by creating a calm and distraction-free mealtime environment. Serve small portions of food and offer a variety of textures and colors to make meals visually appealing. Try finger foods that he can pick up and eat himself, as toddlers often enjoy self-feeding. Avoid force-feeding, as this can create negative associations with eating. Include foods he enjoys, and gradually introduce new items alongside them. Maintain a consistent meal and snack schedule to develop a routine, but avoid offering milk or snacks close to meal times as this may reduce his appetite. If he continues to spit out food, check for any underlying issues such as teething discomfort or oral sensitivity, which could make eating challenging. You can also consult a pediatrician or a child nutritionist to rule out any nutritional deficiencies or health concerns and get personalized guidance. Patience and persistence are key; with time and consistent efforts, his eating habits should improve.
