It happens because their digestive systems are still developing and may not effectively keep the milk down. Some possible reasons for spitting up include overfeeding, swallowing air during feeding, a fast milk flow, or a sensitive digestive system.
Burping your baby after feeding can help reduce spitting up, as it releases any swallowed air and aids digestion. If your baby is sleeping after a feed, you can try gently burping them before placing them down.
If your baby is gaining weight well, seems content, and the spitting up does not seem to cause discomfort, it is likely not a serious issue. However, if the spitting up is frequent, projectile, or accompanied by other symptoms such as poor weight gain, fussiness, or signs of discomfort, it's best to consult with your healthcare provider to rule out any underlying conditions like reflux or allergies.
