Q.

My baby failed OAE test on the second day of her birth. Is that a big problem?

A. Hi N, My baby is 8 days old. She also failed OAE test for her right hear. We have been advised to bring her to retest after 21 days. Doctor didnt seem concerned and nurse mentioned that she probably failed because she was crying when test was happening. I guess it requires baby to be quiet. I have also heard it's common for babies to fail test initially as Newborn have some sort of fluid in their ear, which clears up with time. In India, they do test straight away whereas many countries do it after 3-4 weeks for newborn to be stable while conducting test. Here's a attachment shared by cousin in Ireland.

A. hello your doctor maye advice you to repeat the test again and it is better to check with your doctor and go as advised by a doctor as the baby is very small and he will be able to guide you accordingly which would be better for the baby also and safe to
