my baby 20 months when excited flaps his hands is it normal

A. Hand flapping can often be seen in children diagnosed with autism. But it can also appear in normal children, usually for a few months, before it disappears. Along with hand flapping, if your kid does not respond to his or her name by 12 months, tries to avoid eye contact, prefers to play alone, does not share interest with others, has flat or blunted facial expressions, have trouble understanding and responding to other people's feelings or talking about their own, then the kid might be autistic. But you do not have to worry if your kid flaps his or her hands when excited.
