I want to inquire about the SGOT/SGPT levels in 2 month old baby, are they on higher side in first 6 months and are they going to decrease with time?#asktheexpert

A. When the liver gets damaged or injured or if it is producing in excess, these enzymes leak out into the blood and the levels of SGOT and SGPT become elevated. High SGPT/SGOT is an indication of liver cell injury and needs to be detected through regular health checkups.
