Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy1 Year agoA. this occurs due to nasolacrimal duct obstruction which is very common in children at this age
it occurs due to obstruction of pathway (nasolacrimal duct) from eyes to the nose for which eyes massage is needed regularly and this problem goes away with increasing age of the child
meet your doctor for more information and also go through various videos whichd will also tell you how to massage the eyes to decrease the obstruction.
if the obstruction is not taken care of the proper massage it can lead to infection in the eyes( yellow secretion) and more watery eyes as well as red eyes and secretions from the eyes
POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy1 Year agoA. It can be normal for babies to have watery eyes, but it could also indicate a few common conditions:
1. **Blocked Tear Ducts:** This is a common issue in infants where the tear ducts are not fully open, causing tears to overflow. It usually resolves on its own by the time the baby is one year old.
2. **Eye Irritation or Infection:** If the eyes are red, swollen, or have discharge, it could be due to irritation or an eye infection like conjunctivitis.
3. **Allergies:** Babies can have allergic reactions to environmental factors, which may cause watery eyes.
To help manage or observe the situation:
- **Gentle Cleaning:** Wipe the baby’s eyes gently with a clean, damp cloth to remove any excess tears.
- **Massage:** If it's a blocked tear duct, gently massage the area between the eye and the nose. This can help open up the tear duct.
- **Monitor for Other Symptoms:** Look for signs of redness, swelling, or discharge, which could indicate an infection.
If the watery eyes persist, are accompanied by other symptoms, or if you have any concerns, it’s best to consult your pediatrician for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
