A. Hormonal changes during pregnancy causes more exaggerated response to plaque(It is a sticky colourless film of bacteria and sugars that constantly forms on our teeth) leading to bleeding gums also called pregnancy gingivitis. If treated early resolves spontaneously. In advance cases if not treated may cause Periodontitis. Various studies have established scientific co-relation between Periodontitis and preterm labour and low birth weight babies . Hence it is advised to consult your dentist and maintain good oral hygiene.
