Q.

How to make my child learn to drink water. He is 15 months old & I am struggling to give him water. Neither he takes spoon nor Sippy or open glass or any straw cup. At the end I just enlarged the nipple of bottle & trying to give water. Is this practice ok ??

A. Encouraging a toddler to drink water can sometimes be a challenge, but it's important to keep them well-hydrated. Here are some tips to help your toddler drink more water: 1. Use Attractive Cups: Offer water in colorful or fun cups or bottles that your toddler finds appealing. 2. Lead by Example: Show your child that you also enjoy drinking water. Children often mimic their parents. 3. Make It Fun: Add a splash of flavor by infusing water with a slice of lemon, lime, or a small amount of fruit juice (diluted with water). You can also use ice cubes in fun shapes. 4. Offer Small, Frequent Sips: Instead of trying to get your toddler to drink a lot at once, offer small sips throughout the day. 5. Set a Schedule: Establish regular drink times, such as before or after meals, and during playtime. 6. Reward and Praise: Praise your toddler when they drink water, and consider a small reward system for motivation. 7. Serve at the Right Temperature: Some children prefer water at a specific temperature, so experiment with serving it cold or at room temperature. 8. Be Patient: It may take time for your toddler to develop the habit of drinking water regularly, so be patient and consistent in your efforts. Avoid using sugary drinks as a substitute for water, as they can lead to other health issues. If you're concerned about your child's fluid intake, consult with a pediatrician for guidance. Remember that a balanced diet with a variety of fruits and vegetables also contributes to your child's overall hydration.
