1. Ligament Stretching: The round ligaments, which support your growing uterus, are under extra strain as your baby grows. Movements like turning in bed can stretch these ligaments, causing brief sharp pain.
2. Positioning and Pressure: As your baby grows, they place more pressure on surrounding organs and muscles, and changing positions can intensify this pressure.
3. Braxton Hicks Contractions: These "practice" contractions can cause discomfort, often triggered by movement, especially in the evening.
To ease the discomfort, try these tips:
Use Pillows: Support your belly with a pregnancy pillow or a rolled-up blanket under it. Placing a pillow between your knees may also help align your hips, reducing strain.
Move Slowly: When changing positions, do it slowly and in stages to minimize strain on your abdomen.
Stay Hydrated: Dehydration can sometimes intensify muscle cramping and Braxton Hicks contractions, so make sure you’re drinking plenty of water.
If the pain becomes severe, is continuous, or is accompanied by other symptoms like bleeding, leakage of fluid, or reduced fetal movement, reach out to your healthcare provider for an evaluation.
