hello sir my boy of 8 yrs was having nocturnal cough and his treatment is ongoing dr suggested metaspray and montair lc syrup for 2 months ..my concern is after withdrawal of syrup does it reoccurs..or get addicted and heard about side-effects too.. please suggest.

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children1 Year agoA. Cough along with Cold and fever most of the time is a viral illness or allergic and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration needs to be maintained. you can give steam inhalation which may be useful .
cough needs to be treated with medicine like anti allergic expectorant bronchodilators antitussives or cough suppresents medicine which should be given only after a proper evaluation by the doctor according to the type of cough and need.
In severe cough nebulisation can be given where medicine directly gets dilivered in the rcyespiratory tract.
Also if fever is there paracetamol can be given to reduce the fever and the dose is 15 mg/ kg body weight and can be repeated after 6 hours again if required .
Home remedies like Tulsi & ginger mix in honey can bfe tried for soothing.

AbhayaMom of a 15 yr 8 m old boy1 Year agoA. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much. Please give steam to the baby twice a day. Also give natural cough syrup like Patanjali shavasari syrup after baby completes doctor dosage. Also give honey in luke warm water.
