A. For a 7-month-old baby, it's generally recommended to limit the intake of both salt and sugar. Here’s why: Salt: Kidney Development: Babies' kidneys are still developing, and they cannot handle excessive sodium well. It's best to avoid adding salt to their food until they are at least 1 year old. Natural Sodium: Foods already contain some natural sodium, so there’s typically no need to add extra salt to baby food. Sugar: Dental Health: Introducing added sugars can lead to a preference for sweet flavors, increasing the risk of dental problems later on. Nutrition: It's important for babies to get their nutrients from whole foods rather than sugary treats. This means focusing on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains instead. What to Offer Instead: Natural Flavoring: Use herbs and spices to enhance flavor without adding salt. For example, you can try cinnamon or vanilla in oatmeal or pureed fruits. Fruits: Offer naturally sweet fruits like bananas, apples, or pears to satisfy sweet cravings. Conclusion: Avoid adding salt and sugar to your 7-month-old's diet. Instead, focus on providing a variety of healthy, unprocessed foods that are naturally flavorful. If you have any concerns or specific dietary questions, it's always a good idea to consult with your pediatrician.
