#asktheexperts my baby is 1month 24days old she has a fever around 98.5 from past one week.. temperature keeps varying in a day from 97.4 to 98.5 F .. and high during evening time.. from 2days she have got cold now .. blocked nose .. I'm giving her CALPOL syrup and PHEXIN REDISYP on doctor prescription.. since from sdy I'm giving her Sinarest syp too 0.3ml twice a day .. though cold has not cured.. what shld i do

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children3 years agoA. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed .other medicine like mefenamic acid ibuprofen can also be given . Lukewarm sponge bath can be given as home rgemedy to tdecrease fever. Adequate fluid intake is also beneficial. Urine output monitoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .
