A. At 7 months, your baby is ready to explore a wider variety of foods alongside breastmilk or formula. This stage is important for developing taste, chewing skills, and nutrition. Here's a guide to help you with external (solid) feeding for your 7-month-old baby: 1. Feeding Frequency: 2–3 solid meals per day. Continue breastfeeding/formula as the main source of nutrition (approx. 500–700 ml/day). 2. Foods You Can Start With: Cereals & Grains: Rice cereal, dal khichdi (soft and mashed), suji porridge Oats porridge Soft idli, upma (without spice) Fruits (mashed or pureed): Banana Apple (boiled and mashed or grated) Pear Chikoo (sapota) Papaya Avocado Vegetables (steamed and mashed): Carrot, pumpkin, sweet potato Bottle gourd (lauki), spinach (palak), peas Protein: Moong dal, toor dal (well cooked and mashed) Masoor dal Egg yolk (boiled, start with a small amount) Paneer (homemade, mashed) Finger Foods (once baby is ready): Soft cooked vegetables (carrot sticks, sweet potato sticks) Small pieces of ripe fruits 3. Progression Plan: 4. Tips for Success: Introduce one new food at a time, and wait 3 days to check for allergies. Feed when your baby is active and hungry, not sleepy or cranky. Start with 3-4 spoonfuls, gradually increase quantity. Avoid salt, sugar, honey, cow’s milk, and spicy/oily food. Keep the food soft, mashed, and slightly warm. 5. What to Avoid: Honey (risk of infant botulism) Whole nuts or large chunks of food (choking hazard) Salt and sugar (strain kidneys, form bad habits) Cow’s milk as main drink (can be used in recipes in small amounts)
