A. If your son has had typhoid twice—in October 2024 and again in April 2025—it’s important to take strong preventive measures to protect him from further infections. Typhoid is caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria, usually through contaminated food or water. Here are key precautions to follow: 1. Vaccination: Ensure he is vaccinated against typhoid. There are two types of typhoid vaccines: oral and injectable. Ask your pediatrician if a booster is needed or if he was previously unvaccinated. 2. Safe Drinking Water: Only give boiled or purified water to your child. Avoid tap water, even for brushing teeth or washing fruits. Consider using a good water purifier at home. 3. Hygiene & Sanitation: Teach and encourage frequent handwashing, especially before eating and after using the toilet. Make sure all caregivers and family members also follow strict hygiene. 4. Food Safety: Avoid street food and unwashed fruits/vegetables. Cook food thoroughly and serve it hot. Wash fruits and veggies properly before use. 5. Healthy Gut & Immunity: Give your child a nutritious, balanced diet to boost immunity. Include probiotics like curd/yogurt and fiber-rich foods for better digestion. 6. Monitor Symptoms Early: Keep a close eye for any early signs of typhoid like fever, tiredness, or stomach pain, and seek medical attention early to avoid complications. Final Note: Because recurrence in a short time might suggest reinfection or an incomplete cure the first time, discuss this with your pediatrician. They might recommend further tests or longer antibiotic courses, and rule out any carrier state (a rare condition where the bacteria stay in the body even after recovery). Staying proactive with hygiene, food safety, and vaccinations will go a long way in preventing future typhoid infections.
