A. If your 4-year-old son is not able to eat by himself and struggles to communicate his hunger, it may be helpful to approach the situation with patience and supportive strategies. First, establish a consistent mealtime routine, offering meals and snacks at regular intervals throughout the day. This can help him become more aware of hunger cues and make it easier for him to anticipate when food will be available. Encourage him to express his needs by using simple phrases or gestures, and reinforce this communication by responding positively when he attempts to ask for food. You can also make mealtimes engaging by involving him in the process, such as letting him help with meal preparation or setting the table, which can foster a sense of ownership and interest in eating. Offering a variety of foods in a fun and appealing manner may also encourage him to explore and try eating independently. It might be beneficial to consult with a pediatrician or a child psychologist for further evaluation, as they can provide tailored advice based on his specific needs and developmental stage. Occupational therapy can also be helpful in developing self-feeding skills if necessary.
