A. For a 1-year-old baby with severe cold and cough, it's essential to consult a pediatrician before administering any medication, as many over-the-counter cold medicines are not recommended for young children. Your doctor may suggest a saline nasal spray to help relieve nasal congestion, and a humidifier in the room can add moisture to the air, easing breathing. If your baby has a fever, you can use acetaminophen or ibuprofen, but always follow the dosage guidelines based on your child's weight and age. For soothing a cough, honey can be given to children over 1 year old, as it may help coat the throat and reduce coughing. However, avoid giving honey to babies under 1 year due to the risk of botulism. Additionally, keep your baby well-hydrated with fluids, and ensure they get plenty of rest. If the cough persists, worsens, or is accompanied by difficulty breathing, wheezing, or other concerning symptoms, seek immediate medical attention for further evaluation and treatment.
