Q.

#AskTheExpert my son Aarav is suffering from cough since past 2 months. it reduces for 2 to 3 days and again it increases..i have shown him to paediatrician.. he has advised Defcort oral suspension for him and grinlinctus suspension.. as Defcort is a steroid..i am fearing..if it has any side effects..my son is 4yrs 1 month old.. please suggest

A. thank you doctor for your reply..but i am fearing of side effects..will this Defcort suspension have side effects on my child??

A. Cough along with Cold most of the time is a viral illness and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration. you can give steam inhalation which is very useful . cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expetctorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be given only after a proper evaluation by the doctor according to the type of cough. if fever is there paracetamol can hgbe given to reduce the fever and the dose can be repeated after 6 hours again if required .
