Q.

#asktheexpert My baby is 5.5 months old. I feel she is more hungry and not getting enough breastfeed as she keeps on crying every 1.5-2 hour... can I start food for her? what can be the very first food and how many times a day should be given?

A. It is a normal frequency where the baby will cry every one and a half to two hours after a feed. It is ideal that you wait until six completed months or 180 days of age before starting solids and instead, you can also give formula.

A. I had the same concern for my baby but I waited for 180 days as per Doctor recommendation. As per my experience she becomes cranky may be due to teething, discomfort or colic pain. I tried to distract her and hold her in my arms to comfort ( sometimes whole night). There are various ways you cna try to distract or give additional breast milk/formula.
