A. At 19 months old, it's common for some children to have limited speech but still understand and communicate through gestures. Here are some things you might consider: 1. Speech Milestones: Many children start to speak more clearly around 18-24 months. They might have a vocabulary of 10-50 words and start combining words into simple phrases. 2. Encourage Communication: Continue to talk to your baby regularly, describe what you're doing, and encourage him to use words by naming objects and actions. 3. Interactive Play: Engage in activities that promote language development, such as reading books together, singing songs, and playing interactive games. 4. Hearing Check: Ensure there are no hearing issues affecting his speech development. If you have concerns, a hearing test might be helpful. 5. Consult a Specialist: If you're concerned about his speech development or if he’s not making progress, consulting a pediatrician or a speech-language pathologist can provide guidance and support. It's important to remember that every child develops at their own pace, but seeking advice from a professional can provide reassurance and help if needed.
