POOJA KOTHARIExpecting Mom due in 1 month2 months agoA. If your 20-day-old daughter is passing stool and part of the rectum or anal lining seems to be protruding (a condition known as rectal prolapse), it can sometimes happen in infants due to straining during bowel movements, especially if the stools are hard or if there's frequent crying with pressure.
In many mild cases, especially in very young infants, this may improve on its own as the baby grows and gains strength in the pelvic muscles. However, it should not be ignored, especially in such a young baby.
What you can do: Keep her stools soft: Ensure she's feeding well (breast milk or formula) and not constipated. Avoid unnecessary straining: If she's straining a lot, discuss with your pediatrician about possible stool softeners or any underlying causes. Consult a pediatrician promptly: Persistent or worsening prolapse needs medical evaluation to rule out underlying issues like cystic fibrosis, malnutrition, or anatomical problems.
Please do not try to push anything back in yourself. It's best to have her examined soon to prevent complications.
