POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy4 months agoA. It's quite common for one-year-old babies to wake up frequently at night, though it can be exhausting for parents. At this age, many children are still learning to self-soothe and may wake up between sleep cycles, especially if they rely on breastfeeding, rocking, or being held to fall asleep. If your baby has developed a strong sleep association—such as needing to feed or be cuddled to fall back asleep—this can cause multiple night awakenings. Teething, growth spurts, separation anxiety, or even minor illnesses can also disrupt sleep. While some waking is normal, frequent disruptions that affect your baby's daytime behavior or development may need attention. Ensuring a consistent bedtime routine, limiting stimulation before bed, and helping your baby learn to fall asleep independently can gradually improve sleep. If the waking persists despite good sleep practices or if your child seems uncomfortable, in pain, or overly irritable during the day, it’s a good idea to consult your pediatrician to rule out any medical concerns like reflux, allergies, or nutritional deficiencies. With time, gentle sleep training and routine reinforcement usually lead to better and longer nighttime sleep.
