Q.

#asktheexpert Hello Ma'am, I am 30 weeks pregnant, nearing delivery. I am extremely scared of Catherization. It's giving me traumas. I am unable to sleep at night at the thought of it. Please let me know if I can avoid this in any process. As I am aware that the delivery process can be either Normal Delivery (with Epidural) or Normal Delivery (without Epidural). In which of these processes Catherization can be avoided? As my doctor said that if I have to go for Emergency C-section, in that case she can put the Catheter after the Epidural is given. So I am not really scared of that process. But the process of Catherization during the Normal delivery is haunting me. Kindly let me know.

A. Well in normal delivery you might avoid using catheter if you don’t have epidural. If you are in your active labor and not able to move from the bed, then catheterization might be required. Usually lots of lignocaine jelly will be used and the sensation will be reduced by putting on the catheter
