POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 6 m old boy11 months agoA. Homemade Cerelac is a nutritious, easily digestible meal for a 6-month-old baby. It’s made from grains and legumes, providing essential nutrients. Here’s how you can prepare and give homemade Cerelac:
Ingredients:
Rice (or any other grain like ragi, oats) – 1 cup
Moong dal (or any lentil) – 1/4 cup
Almonds (optional) – 4-5 (soaked and peeled)
Water – as needed
Breast milk/formula (optional) – for smoother consistency
Preparation:
1. Dry roast grains (like rice, ragi, or oats) separately until they turn slightly golden and aromatic.
2. Dry roast the lentils (like moong dal) until golden brown.
3. Grind the roasted grains and lentils into a fine powder in a blender.
4. If adding almonds, dry roast them and grind them into powder separately.
5. Store the powdered mixture in an airtight container.
How to Make the Cerelac:
1. Take 1 tablespoon of the prepared Cerelac powder.
2. Mix it with about 1 cup of water (adjust the amount for desired consistency).
3. Cook the mixture on low flame, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
4. Once it’s cooked and has a smooth consistency, let it cool down a bit.
5. You can mix in a little breast milk or formula to make it smoother or more familiar in taste for your baby.
How to Give It:
Start by giving 1-2 tablespoons once a day, ideally during breakfast or lunch.
Gradually increase the quantity as your baby gets used to it.
Ensure it’s not too hot before feeding your baby.
Serve freshly prepared Cerelac to avoid contamination.
Tips:
Introduce gradually: Offer it as a single meal at first, and slowly increase to 2 meals.
Observe for allergies: Start with a small portion and wait to check for any allergic reactions.
Variety: You can later add mashed fruits like banana, apple, or veggies like carrots for variety and extra nutrition.
