The Challenges of a Single Mom to Raise a Girl Child

I am the mother of a 3-year-old baby girl. It’s a blessing for me to be the mother of a girl child; she is a gift to me, and I feel complete as a woman whenever I see her face. Although my daughter is a blessing, I cannot deny that being a single mom is a challenge, sort of an examination that is tough to crack. And, I take the challenge to raise my daughter to a beautiful human being.

To me, taking care of her, giving her all the teachings of life, and raising her is a great responsibility as I am raising the next generation. Though our country believes and worships the Goddesses, at the end of the day, it is the woman who has to face this male-dominated society. Fulfilling the society’s demands and taking over the challenges becomes the motto of a woman, and I am raising a woman to face those tests fearlessly.

My task as a mother is to raise my daughter to become strong, brave, intelligent and creative enough to find ways to tackle all the problems by herself and becoming independent in her own way. And lastly, I hope I am able to teach her to value other human beings, respect and love all the creatures, and to face life with a bright smile on the face.

She was 15 months old when I started to raise her alone after the death of her father. It is a great challenge for me every day. I feel like I see a new version of her every day. She learns new things; she speaks several new words. She is slowly becoming a girl from a baby. I started her education at home quite early and learnt a lot of new things. I appreciate this opportunity given by FirstCry to write about us and share some beautiful moments of my life.
